Hi
I saw your page on Visitors and thought I would commend you for the
amount of material you managed to find on us - especially the old photos
from Kingdom Come. I don't have any of those myself. I wanted to correct
a couple of things if you don't mind:
We were from Edinburgh - not Aberdeen
John McVay played Keyboards as well as doing the majority of the vocals.
Derek did the lead vocal on Electric Heat, I did it on Moth and John did
One Line. On the next two singles, John was predominantly the lead
vocalist
The original drummer Alan Laing was 'replaced' by Keith Wilson because
we were going in a different musical direction and Alan was a rock
drummer - a very good one - but not what we needed. We were never
disillusioned, we just heard new music and were excited by it
We changed our name to Visitors. John was always adamant that we would
not be another band called 'The' whatever. Having taken that stance,
everyone just ignored it and called us 'The Visitors'
One of our influences was definitely Wire but although we often were
compared to Joy Division, none of us possessed any of their records and
we never listened to them except when we heard them at gigs. We were
more influenced by Magazine, Ultravox (obviously the John Foxx era), The
Clash, The Jam, The Buzzcocks, etc.
Hope you find this interesting and helpful
Cheers
