Formed in 1978 in South London:
The closest the Uk would have to a Blondie style pop-punk act.
Although Jan soon became the focal point it was pretty clear "Security Risk are a band."
They Started off with many support slots with the Uk Subs before hitting the bigger stages
with the Damned.
A tight set of power-pop songs, mainly written by guitarist Tony, Security Risk could just as
easily win over a mod crowd as well as a punk crowd.
Songs included; Jean Machine, Different World, Action Man, Sign Us Up, Pop Song,
Bobby's Girl, Family Life, Deep Freeze, Hanging Around, Letter From America, and even
White Christmas.
Unfortunately the band never made it to vinyl, they turned away from the overcrowded
independent market and held out for a major deal. At one point CBS looked likely to sign
them, but took on The Photos instead, another major label blunder.
A shortening of their name to The Risk did nothing to help and, as with many great young
acts of their time, they soon split up.
Tony would later work with Charlie Harper, of the UK Subs, on his solo album "Stolen
Property" before ending up in London's psychedelic leading band 'Mood Six'.
Thanks goes to 'Mick Mercer' for the use of all his photographs.
