Hi Guys Been living in the US for 20 years. Recently been in touch with Hammy (lead singer The Needles), and wanted to let you know that the drummer on the Needles first and only ever single was ME!!, not David Webster. For the purpose of accuracy, thought you may want to know this tit-bit of information, and even though it was 33 years ago, the recognition would still be nice.

Hi David: I very much appreciate your getting back to me. We recorded three tracks at Spacewood recording studios in Cambridge. The songs were Gotta Know You, Jayneski, and May Day. (I will send you the May Day recording once I can get to my external hard drive later today). There were only four of us in the band at that time, Richard, John, Bruno, and Myself. I am the one on the right of the picture cover looking at Hammy... the lead singer. Joe Bull was the recording engineer at Spacewood, and I have attached an interesting article from 2006 to give you a little more background. Hammy (Richard Hammerton) has had a very interesting career in the music business, and here is a link to a short documentary the BBC did on him. Richard now lives in Norwich, and we still communicate. Hammy was three years older than me, but we went to the same school... Gorleston Grammar School, and shared the same music teacher, John Roper. Hammy and I then both did mechanical engineering apprenticeships at factory called Hartman Fiber, right next to the old Great Yarmouth power station. Also, when you watch the BBC piece, you will here Gotta Know Ya playing in the background when they begin interviewing Richard at his home in Norwich. Thinking about it, I will send you all three recordings later so you can here them (May Day was always my favourite), and I will also see what else I can dig up. Thanks Mark Western |
