MARTIN "ODDY" ORDISH

UPDATES US....

Hello DizzyDetour,

I have just read your page about the Mag Spies, and I thought you might like a bit more info.

The Fools Dance label wasn't owned by Robert Smith. It was a creation of Simon Gallup's brother Rick (and others I think) to try and release some stuff we did. Matthieu ( correct spelling ) Hartley was the keyboard player for us and Simon Gallup was the bass player from the beginning when we were The amazing Doctor Octopuss. Then we were Lockjaw and finally Magazine Spies.

We knew Smith when he was in Easycure and we were Lockjaw, and we used to do gigs together using the incredible line "I KNOW AN EASYCURE FOR LOCKJAW". Not bad for a bunch of kids hah hah hah .

Finally when Mick Dempsy left The Cure, Smith asked Simon and Matt to join him cos he had a record deal with Fiction Records. That was the last we saw of them for a few years. The original dosh needed to finance the demo Smith made that got his record deal was put up by Rick Gallup as well. He was instrumental  (no pun intended) in helping The Cure to where they are today. He also did the stop motion animation film they used to show at the gigs called "Carnage Visors".

I hope this lot is of some interest to you,

Regards  Martin (ODDY) Ordish

PS I went on the Head on the Door tour with the Cure back in the 80,s for a while , and Smith ponced a fiver off me. I never got it back.

PPS I think I may have been on this site before ranting on cos I was a bit lagered. If I was please forgive the ravings of a middle aged not quite old punk!!!!!

PPPS Carol  Thompson is Simon's  childhood sweetheart and ex wife.

Thanks to Martin for the update from 6th January 2005
