Outside the legendary 'Roxy Club' on Wednesday 22nd June 1977. |
Early Punk band from outta Northampton who were quite active locally and even played the famous Roxy Club on four different occasions with the first being on Wednesday 22nd June 1977 with 'Ed Banger & the Nosebleeds' & Gloria Mundi', then again on Friday 18th November 1977 with 'The Wasps' & 'The Tickets', then back again on Saturday 26th November 1977 with 'Mean Street' and Watfords finest 'The Bears' and then finally Thursday 12th January 1978 along side 'Blitz' & 'Perverse Velvet'.
In their line up, they featured a young 'Chris Barber' who would eventually join an early embodiment of the great BAUHAUS as their bassist. In fact, their very last gig which was in 1978 that the Shoplifters played in front of their own fans in Northampton they had to replace their drummer 'Jayne' and the stand in drummer on the night was 'Kevin Haskins' who would also end up the drummer in BAUHAUS. The bizarre thing was that THE SHOPLIFTERS were headlining and their support band was BAUHAUS.
This was to be the final performance by THE SHOPLIFTERS and was the debut gig by BAUHAUS after changing their name from 'Judy Smacks' a few weeks earlier.
