with ref 2 Manchester band Varicose Veins 2. They did have a single out but the lyrical content and picture sleeve were deemed to obscene. From what I remember, all copies were seized and destroyed by the powers that be. The lyrics included the lines .....'' lady Diana's got a great left nipple... Prince Charles is a fuckin cripple ....cripple.. cripple yeh yeh yeh. The sleeve woz porn image with royal heads stuck on. It would be interesting to know if a copy survived.

I hope this helps.

I remember them well as the worst band I've ever seen. Although now legendary....

Hi,

Great website. My name is Ian and i was the lead singer of Varicose Veins (2). I called myself Jesus and started the band with Boris (i think his name was Mark) We changed band members anybody who was interested. We split up after we played with the Damned and ANL at Manchester university in 80 or 81. Ive been living in Sweden for 18 years now. I saw The vibrators over here and the pistols 10 years ago in Stockholm. I'm off to see the Pistols in June in the north of Sweden.

I was at the 30 years of punk gig at Blackpool 2 years ago and its great to see the old bands. I have never bought a new record (CD) since we were playing at the mayflower with Exploited, Discharge, Vice Squad etc.

We were shit, we could not play, I couldn't sing but we never made out we could, my only regret was not starting the band 2 years earlier. Punk music, way of life and the people was the best thing that ever happened to me. Once a punk always a punk , I'm 46 and listen to the Clash when I play cards on the computer and The Wall/Satan's Rats in the car. I have  a CD of the famous EP which was destroyed. If they had released it who knows what would have happened. I wrote the lyrics and made the picture sleeve's. I still have a scrapbook with cuttings from some of our gigs. I think we played about 15 gigs.

The single was never pressed. When the record company refused to press it and the studio refused to give us the master tape (Cargo Studios), we pinched the master tape and did 200 c30 tapes and sold them in less than a week. I still get emails from fans we were shit but we gave a good show. All the sleeves done but ended up giving them away at concerts.

Cheers Ian
